Why Care About Aung San Suu Kyi (Oun Sun Su Chee) Half Way Around the World in Burma (Myanmar)?

Why Care About Aung San Suu Kyi (Oun Sun Su Chee) Half Way Around the World in Burma (Myanmar)?

ItemTitle

Aung San Suu Kyi (say Oun Sun Su Chee) has spent most of the past 20 years under arrest by the country's Socialist Ruling Party. She is the country's most popular politician and head of the National League for Democracy Party. Although, she has won national elections, the socialist regime refuses to turn over power but instead has persecuted, prosecuted and imprisoned her in order to remain in power.

Burma's politics has roots in the ideology called The Burmese Way to Socialism or Burmese Road to Socialism which began with a Socialist coup in 1962. It has been described by scholars as being a total failure that transformed one of the most prosperous countries in Asia into one of the world's poorest. This Socialist coup was done under the pretext of economic, religious and political crises in the country... Does this sound familiar to what the progressives left (Socialists, Marxists) are doing today right here in the USA?

Aung San Suu Kyi has just been released from house arrest this past Saturday evening Nov.13, 2010. Her story is important to everyone who values freedom because her story or one similar could be happening right here in America. We should study her story and the story of Socialism and Marxism lest we allow it to happen here.

Start by watching the incredible movie Beyond Rangoon starring Patricia Arquette mostly filmed in Malaysia and inspired by real people and events. This is a fascinating and emotional movie with great action and lovely scenery, an official selection of 1995 Cannes Film Festival. It is beautiful, disturbing and very memorable.

Aung San Suu Kyi is free for now. We are relatively free for now. But our freedoms are rapidly being eroded away and replaced by government edicts, government programs, government owned businesses and other government control of our lives that we never dreamed possible. "Never let a good crisis go to waste." is the rallying call of the progressive left today just as it was a half century ago.

We have another election to work towards in 2012. Until then, keep Aung San Suu Kyi in your minds and hearts and do all possible to educate others about her plight.
